Default Overheated S10 Pickup-Please Reply

I overheated my 1994 S10 pickup going up on a mountain. What would have happened. The radiator did start fising and spraying. It got pretty hot and burst the radiator (not a big burst just small) I am just wondering, I needed to replace the radiator anyway and this overheating was probably due to overfilling. What other things could this have done to the truck? Would it have hurt the motor? After letting it cool would it be okay to drive back (its about 3 miles away all down hill and flat on the way back) or do I need to tow it? Just looking for some help thanks. (Engine was shut off imidiatly after it starting creaping tword the red)(it was shut off before it hit the red)

Exactly, you need to have it towed back to a mechanic. I'm suspecting a water pump going out, or possibly a blockage somewhere in the cooling system.
