Default Chevy cam and intake manifold questions?

I have a 2000 chevy silverado 2500 6.0L, and iv already put on a cold air intake, upgraded MAF, headers and exhaust system, and its programmed. I want to move on to cams and an intake manifold but iv been told many different things. I wanted to upgrade the cams and heads but iv been told that i dont need to upgrade the heads. And iv been trying to find a good set up, Iv been thinking about going with LS6 cams and manifold but i really dont know if thats a good idea or not. can anybody offer any useful tips??

To answer that question with any accuracy we need to know what you plan to use the truck for. I'll include links for head specs and cam specs and a forum that will better serve you.

I want to use this truck on the steet for right now, but eventually i would like to get it supercharged and the works, but for right now, yeah mostly just steet application. I want most of the power from the lower rpms because obviously im not gunna be racing it alot yet, and iv been told my stock heads would be the best for this, and i should only upgrade the cams and intakes, but thats where i wonder what would suit me best and be the best combination. I should also say i don't know all that much about specs on cams and intake manifolds, like lift, duration, and runner volume and length. Although i would like to learn about them

How about a how to on a cam and head swap? This happens to be on an LS1 Camaro but the info applies to the 6.0 also. The accessory mounts are similar but you'll be able to see what applies and what doesn't.
I included 2 how tos but once you get to that site spend some time and look around. There are a bunch of good tutorials there.

and this is also a good how to

You might find this interesting as it gives a good breakdown of the differences in the genIII family of engines.

Lastly this is another forum where there are a lot of leadfoots building some nasty fast trucks. You can spend weeks there looking up info. See you in a couple months Grasshopper

Okay with all those sites i think iv decided the type of cam i want. I think i might get a mild cam with 220/220 112lsa and around a .555" to .560" lift. There is one on thunder racing that is pretty close to those specs. Since im new at this im wondering if this would be a good idea for my street application truck. And i was also wondering if i could still use my heads or will i need upgraded ones? And what else should i also upgrade when putting those new cams? and where should i start looking when i when im looking for intake manifolds?

You will need to upgrade the valve springs to handle the higher lift. You will also need to get your ECM reprogrammed. I had mine done here: http://www.wait4meperformance.com/ You also may need to change the torque converter on the tranny as the power band of that cam will be higher than stock and you will lose some low end with that cam.
Remember this, the more air you get into an engine the more you have to let out. The true potential of the cam swap won't be achieved with the stock exhaust. Short tube headers are a waste of money don't even think about them as a performance upgrade. On the subject of intakes, if you change from the truck manifold you will either have to modify your water pump or change to the car accessories because the air inlet on the car manifolds interferes with the belt routing. Look on the performance trucks site I gave you for the solution to that problem. If you are going with a car manifold get the LS6 or LS2 not the LS1. You'll need to change the throttle body also. The 90 mm tb will be the way to go BUT there again now you will be looking at DBW which your truck doesn't support.
One last thing to remember, plan your build carefully around your intended use and strive to match components that compliment each other.

Iv found these parts all on thunder racing and put them on a wish list. As far as i know and can see they all work together and are suited for my truck. Would you be able to take a look and see if im way off or if im pretty close? http://www.thunderracing.com/wishlis...iew&wlid=11149

Cool quick comparison

first and formost know what have, types of head, inlet and exhaust valve size, cam type, how many bearings journals does the crank have 2,4 or 6 bolt main for a quick comparison look at what the chevy hp crate engines are utilizing in there builds and what to expect and last look at wipple superchargers and check out the hp and torque specs. just adding a sc will give you on your stock engine with no modifications what rubrhammer is telling you is true you must first know what you have then apply that to use ! If this is your main transportation that also must be concidered you cant have a drag car pumping out 500 +hp and drive it to the market or work It took me over 8 months of research and comparison to reach a final end product that suited my needs, desires and wishes those ladder bars and suspenson upgrdes are not there for looks! take your time you will only benefit from it and learn! like the name rubrhammer ! we wouldnt be related would we oh god not another one! Red ! Where you at Red! LOL
