Default 1999 1500 200k Maintenance

Hi There - Long time reader first time poster! First of all thank you for all of those that sure they knowledge and experience here. It's a great resource and I'm grateful to have it.

So my girl is about to hit 200K in 600 miles. I've been pretty on top of maintenance along the way, have had the topend redone about 100k ago and about to have to do my second transmission. Had the belt redone about 50k ago, but I want to take her in for a good tighten up. She's rattling everywhere, but I'm not sure what to ask for at the mechanics. I don't want to walk in and say fix everything wrong, but what would y'all recommend as a good list of to-dos?

I can do basics like plugs, wires, oil change. But I know the whole thing probably needs a good greasing what else should I ask for though?

Any help would be great and any other tips from those with high-milagers rolling around would be appreciated as well.

A good friend of mine has a 2002 with more than 210,000 miles on it (he is the original owner) and he just recently had an expensive gasket repair, installed new shocks and a rebuilt transfer case. His truck is a 4x4, of course.

The engine is still very tight and runs like an angry mule.

I only hope I get the same long life out of my 2004 - which is approaching 120,000 miles.

Thanks JK. The motor my truck still is still phenomenal, I love these trucks for that. I think front shocks would be a good ideal, it has been feeling a bit stiffer than normal. That's a pretty easy 2 bolt job so I can add that to my own list. I wish I could have all of the age related rattles fixed.

The Chevrolet small-block V8 must be something that works -- as they've made it continuously for sixty years now. Yes, sixty years!


The 1955 Chevrolet BelAir came with the first "small-block" 265 cid V8, which has been continually updated over the years. Even a 2015 Corvette will have a distantly-related derivative of this mechanical wonder under its fiberglass hood.

My 96 has 304K on all original parts. Other than normal oil and filter changes and regular chassis lube , brakes as needed. I have replaced the Master cyl and booster. I change out all the hoses and fan belt every 100K. ( cheap insurance ) new thermostat with cooling system flush every yr. Repack front wheel bearings at brake replacement.
Replace trans filter every 50K. ( I tow things , cheap ins. ) Flush brake system every 100K.


Sounds like a lot but my truck is trustworthy and still going strong at 304.


I am building a 383stroker motor to replace the original 305 cu in. engine as I wasn't to be able to dust a few nimrods at stop lights.


Normal basic maintainance works for me.
