I have always wanted an OBS 1500 extended cab well I am tired of waiting and the longer I do wait the more I realize they are getting junked every day so I found one that is not completely rotted out ( I'm in the midwest) it'd a 1992 1500 extended cab short bed 4x4 with a bad 305 in it, guy says cam bearings are bad he thinks I was thinking about a full engine rebuild and going from there now here is the good part I have absolutely 0 tools other than a 20 gal air compressor and a 1/2 impact a Stanley socket set and a set of Pittsburgh steel wrenches, standard and metric what yall think should I do it? BTW I have a harbor freight and an advanced auto parts less than a mile from my home if that changes anything ..... I'm thinking full send! 🤔

I rarely do engine rebuilds bc of fear that i miss something and have to take it all back out. if the cam bearings are bad and metal from the camshaft circulated in the engine oil...the entire motor is junk. if you see any metal in the oil pan or worn camshaft...get another motor.

i see many people wanting to trace and repair engine knocks and end up spending $$ on new parts and not fixing the problem. for me i go with a someting r unning with no noises....unless its a rare motor...which is not the case for a chevy pu

Welcome from Florida. If you are set on doing it yourself, get a short block and go from there.

+3 for replacing the engine. The machining work alone to revive the engine isn’t worth it unless you have free access to the equipment necessary to do it yourself.

If you want a rebuild project, either keep looking for a truck you want with an engine that’s worth rebuilding, or buy this truck and find another engine to rebuild from a pick and pull.
