Default Crank Position Sensor??

2008 Silverado 1500, 2 wheel drive, automatic tranny, 5.3 engine, not flex fuel.

While driving along yesterday and using the cruise, I felt a slight jerk and noticed the check engine light had come on and the tach had quit working. The cruise still worked, but the truck seem to lose some power and ran quite rough, especially when it changed to the 4 cyl mode.

When I had to come to a stop, as I pulled away it shifted very hard and did so the rest of the way home.

When I got home, I had a local parts store read the code. It returned a "bad crank position sensor". He cleared the code, but it immediately came back on. Today, I had to go on a short trip. Althought the check engine light was still on, the truck started fine, ran fine, shifted fine, and the tach worked. I went back to parts store and had him clear the code again. This time it did not come back on and continues to perform as it should.

Would the bad sensor cause the tack to stop working, running rough, and shifting hard? And is this known to be an intermittent problem with the crank sensor?

Tom

i went to a top end parts house, same quality as Manufacture is. the corner parts houses sell second, and third quality parts, OK in a pinch. if you don't believe me look at the AC spark plugs, top quality have blue bands around them and the cheapy's just have the number.
my personal method is OEM quality on any thing that could strand me on the side of the road. electronic parts, battery, fuel related parts.... you get the hint, I have bought "new" electronics that ran worse than the one it replaced, from the corner parts house's I learned my lesson a long time ago.
