Default future v8 swap?

i have a 97 chevy pickup ext. cab with the 262 v6 vortec and it has the 5 speed manual trans in it, i love this motor cuz its indestructible. I want to do performance upgrades to it but because of the mileage what is the point right? i would want to put a v8 in it if i had the opportunity, i like the v6 torque but it lackes in the power, wich is why i would like to have a v8, i would be even more fun to drive. i saw that some of the early 90's silverados came with the 5 speed and a 305. but would it bolt up to the 97 trans? are they the same pattern? would i be able to bolt up a 350 possibly? everyone knows that a motor doesnt last forever even though sometimes we wish they did, so some information on this would be awesome

4.3, 305, 350 all share the same trans bolt pattern.

i know its stupid to ask this question but what about the vortec 454? even though its a big block, or does it have a larger pattern for a heavier duty trans, cuz my oldest bro has a 95 sierra dually that he blew the oil pan out on from hitting a tree lol i could pull that out and put a new pan on n maybe have a 454 1500 pickup? lol
i know its prolly a retard question but you never know til u ask

so going with the 5 speed do you think like a 350 or 454 would be too much for the light duty 5 spd and the the two piece driveshaft and dinky rearend?

steer away from the 454 with the 5 spd. too much torque. 350 will work. just fine. but 3/4 ton rear not bad idea at all
