Default Gas Gauge 2010 Silverado

In all the other vehicles I have had, once my gas light comes on, I easily have another 15 miles or more I can drive. With this new truck, twice now this has happened..within 2 miles of my gas light coming on, I have to stop and get gas b/c it feels like the truck is not running like it should. Is this the norm with these? My husband has an 06 and he can run his for a bit, I can't. Also, I put gas in it tonight, within 1 block of the light coming on and it took almost 23 gallons of gas! Geez, it waits too long to come on don't ya think?

You should have about 3 gallon of gas in there when it comes on permanent. It's 2010, take it to dealer you have a warranty.

Yes, definetly didn't have 3 gallons, I couldn't believe it took over 22 gallons. I hadn't even went a block when that light came on. I didn't want to bother them, but I will. Thanks!

Its been my experience that when the fuel light comes on you have 3 or less gallons of gas... its not a courtesy its a warning...
that said you really should not let your fuel get that low as it can be really hard on the fuel pump, the pump relies on the fuel in the tank sloshing around for cooling, this especially important during the hot months.
filling up around a 1/4 tank or just under is a good rule of thumb....

I don't know what the size the tank is. My husbands in an 06 and I think his is 22.

Also, of course I know not to let a vehicle run on E. Sometimes it happens though, we all do it. It fluctuates so it went from a little gas, to E in just a few blocks and I immediately stopped and filled up. I know all about the fuel pump, learned my lesson on that when I was 16.

Sorry about that, didn't mean to come across as preachy...
Its possible the fuel float arm is slightly bend and giving a false (or in this case a real reading) at a lower level then normal.

For the 2010 Silverado 1500 the gas tank sizes are 26 and 34 gallons. This depends on what box length the truck has. If it is a long box then you get the 34 gallon tank. If not then the truck has the 26 gallon tank. This is also the same with the 2500 and 3500 trucks. I hope this answers the tank size question.
