i've had my dodge for 3 yrs now and have decided it's been in the shop too much. have been looking and i'm having a hard time choosing between ford and chevy. i know that everyone here will say choose chevy. i know that to get a ford equiped like a chevy i will have to get a lariat package. this makes it almost the same cost. the only chevy ive had was an old s-10 that i didnt have much luck with. my f-150 was great but a little under powered. what i'm looking at is a crew cab 4x4 with big v8. those that have them, are satified and have you had any major issues?

I have what you could call a big v-8. the 6.0. More motor than i paid for. I love it. Had to change a plug wire that was it. i get about 12-14mpg, but i also have 4.10s and get stuck in traffic every single day.

I like Ford and Chevy, I own one of each. At work I see more problems with Ford. Also Chevy is much easier to work on

my dodge has the hemi so im used to bad gas mileage. i get about 15. 11 if i tow my boat. dealer tried to sell me chevy with 4.8. was afraid it wasn't enough engine

Yeah, I went the ford f150 route a few years ago. Truly the road to regret.

Exhaust leaked in less than 30K miles.

The alignment was so bad I wore out two sets of tires in 30K miles. The special alignment to correct the problem took an alignment specialist for the tri-state area and cost 160$.

Reverse gear broke at 49K miles.750$

The front disc brakes lasted 12K miles. Needed changing 3x in 60K miles.

When the rear axle blew a seal at 38k miles, leaked gear oil all over the till then functional rear drum brakes, which had to be replaced.

Factory shocks were garbage-bled at 11K miles, and had to be replaced.

Factory tie rod ends so horrible you couldn't even feel the steering on a rough road.

The electrical gremlin which took out the climate control,radio, and gauges, starting at 23K miles.

The worst dealership support EVER.

That's just what I can remember, off the top of my head. I never spent so much money, or was so let down by pissed poor quality.

Go ahead and buy whatever you like. I'll NEVER buy ford again. I'd certainly consider
a Dodge first.

get a a duramax! u get better mileage then a gas engine..last longer if u keep up on maintaince and well..who dont like a little black smoke? its got twice the power as a gas and can pull alot more..but if your not going to be pulling alot i'd get 1 of the 6.0 chevys my dad has a 06 and it has the 6.0..its got plenty of power to haul stuff..

i agree with gotstylez. i have a 04 1500 4wd 5.3L. the truck has pretty good pick up. with 3.73 gears. i was looking to upgrade to a newer body style 2500 i was told the diesel gets better gas mileage than gas motors and the duramax is a great motor i've heard. i paid too much for a little motor. :/

The 2500HD does. But then you're getting a heftier truck, with a stiffer ride. 410 gears,
E-rated radials, 4L80E tranny, skid plates, 4 wheel disc brakes, and bsm. Can't forget the bsm.

If you go 4WD, for God's sake get the manual 4WD shifter.

The crew cabs are well rated for space and comfort.

I particularly like all the storage space behind and under the rear seats.

2009Sierra

Are you buying used or new? If you are looking at used then I'd stay away from the 2004 - 2008 Fords. I go to a Ford message board all of the time and I've seen numerous issues with those. (spark plug issue, cam phasers, 4x4 issue, fuel injector issues) If you are going new then I think it would be which ever you like better. I see very few issues on the boards regarding the 2009 + Fords. And I don't see many issues for the Chevys, either. Maybe still too soon to tell, too.

I love my 2009 Sierra and it has the 5.3 liter engine. Sounds like you want bigger. But, I've had the Sierra for 3 months now and I love it. I also got a great price on it, too. If I had found the same deal on an F150 and not a GM then I probably would have bought the Ford. I think they have fantastic new interiors. A guy here at work recently bought a 2009 F150 and he loves it. He did have a trans issue before he broke 1000 miles but it was probably a freak thing. Dealer had to do some serious work to it.

I simply bought the GM because it was the best deal I could find. My other car is a Ford so I'm not really biased either way. Go drive some and have some fun.

I know this is a Chevy site but it seems like a great site and hopefully no one minds a Sierra guy on here.
