Default My 2002 Silverado 2500 HD?

My truck has the 8.1 liter V8 and has 215446 miles on it and has treated me good, it has always ran like a champ until a month ago. It started on the freeway driving 70 mph and then the engine just shut off but then kicked back inn. I thought just maybe a little glitch but then driving around town it would start to idlewierd and then shut off. The truck would start right back up and drive great. I did hook up the computer to it and it told me that my 02 sensor was bad so I replaced it, it also told me that my TPS was bad but with everything that I replaced on the truck could the TPS shut the truck down. Any help with this problem I would appreciate it!

I assume TPS means Throttle Position Sensor. Anyway,I had the same problem on a 97' Silverado (1/2ton 5.7L)that I used to own. While driving down the highway, it would start to spit and sputter andsometimes would just shut off. I took it into the dealer and they put it on the computer which showed the Throttle Position Sensor was bad. Had the sensor replaced and never had that problem again.

Sounds like we have the same truck! We bought ours in 2004 and it was doing the same thing...when we bought it...if that tells you anything. The dealership was beside themselves. I came here to this forum and got my answer almost immediately. It was the crankshaft sensor. The dealership didn't want to replace it (which we were warned about) because it is in a difficult position and can be costly. I went back and told them what I had found and they fixed the CS sensor and it has not given us a lick of trouble since. I came on here today cause hubby is wanting a new truck but I really do love the one we have, 105,000 miles and all. So finding out that you have over 200,000 on yours is extremely reassuring that we aren't making a mistake by keeping it.

Thanks!

The computer readout told me that both the TPS & CS sensors are bad so I will replace them both. Thank you both for your input. And Melissa my truck has had oil changes every 3,000 miles and other standard stuff has been kept up with so as long as you take care of your truckyour truck willtake care of you!

Thanx Again

Before you spend that much money check the fuel filter.

I replaced the fuel filter and the TPS (throttle position sensor) 2 - 02 sensors and the truck still does the same thing....Just dies out! I know the crankshaft sensor is hard to get to and I don't even want to try it, is there anyone out there that has changed this sensor themselves and will it fix my problem? I'm at my witts end with my truck and have spentalot ofcash and what is crazy this truck has not given me any trouble sinceIbought it in 2002.

HELP PLEASE!

I'm 99.9% sure that the Crankshaft Position Sensor is the culprit in your case.
I have changed them and they are a real pain in the neck, it is located on top of the motor underneath the intake manifold near the firewall just to the driver side of the very rear of the engine, you have to reomove the rear ignition coil and the fuel lines to get to it, you will also want to spray the CKP sensor with penetrating oil and let it soak before removing it.
The sensor has a single bolt holding it in that screws into the block facing the firewall, it is next to impossible to see the sensor you have to do it by feel, the sensor is pushed in at nearly a verticle angle.
