Default oil change problems

ok the first time i got the oil changed in my truck, i took it to the dealer. now it is due for it's 2nd change but i wanna do it myself. when i went to do it, i couldn't get the plug out because of a bar that is in the way. what is this bar and what is it's function?

i have changed my oil a few times now, first time was at the dealer, 2 times on my own,i dont know what bar you are talking about, i have been able to get both the filter and the plug out without any problems. if you can take a pic then please update so either i or someone else here can help better.

yeah i will get pics on here tomorrow. i am working right now and won't be home til tonight. the bar that is there looks to be useless. but maybe someone on here can tell me what it is when i put the pics on here. thanks.
