My 350 crate engine has shredder "two" 700r4's in the past 3 months. so a friend directed me to get a th350 because they hold up better. my engine produces about 260 HP and about 350 Ft lbs of torque. its a stock engine with a few minor upgrades. Where do you guys recommend i get the transmission from. I'm on a tight budget too. but I'm gonna need everything to swap from a 700r4 to a th350. I'm going to go with a floor shift, and i heard that that the vacuum modulators are the way to go over the detent cable. What stall speed converted should i use. stock? should it match the cam? Do i need to get a new Drive shaft? what about making my Speedometer work, should i just get a mechanical gauge and replace it? also What does the computer run besides the old fuel injection? before i did the engine swap.

How old were the first two trannies? That may be part of your problem. You may want to look at getting a rebuilt tranny that has stronger parts in it. If you do that a 700R4 should do just fine and you will keep your overdrive. Also how do you drive?If you punch it a lot it isn't good for them and that will tear up a tranny where as you could baby it and it will last for a long time. I think I would go with more of a race built tranny.

the second tranny was a monster heavy duty 700r4 rebuild from eatmyshift.com.. i admitt i can be a little heavy on the gas sometimes, but what the fun of havin a 350 in a shortbed and have to baby the gas pedel all the time. overdrive really isent a big concern for me, i ussily drove my 700r4 in the D position most of the time and never used the overdrive, i never travel on the intrestate. most of my driving is localy. another thing i dont like is lockup.

The transmissions have a different overall length, so a new drive shaft is a must. The crossmemberwill have to be repositioned. Speedo cable should hook up as well as shift linkage. If the 700R4 TV cable is not set up right upon install it canscrew up the transmission. That is about all I know on the swapmatter. I do know that 700R4, and even the 200R4 canhandle some pretty serious abuse if built by the right people. I know ofa 200R4 in a full body '84 Monte Carlo with a 454 (est 450hp) and posi 4 series gears that lasted two seasons at the drags strip before 2nd gear went out. Good luck.
