Default 09 Silverado fuel filter

Doing some work on my truck and I was going to replace the fuel filter while I was at it. I was told that on the 09 model Silverado there is NO external fuel filter it is in the gas tank? I looked under the frame(actually just glanced) and didnt see it, did I over look it or is this true?

That would be correct, it is built into the fuel pump assembly...
Though you could add an inline one if you wanted....

That seems like a dumb design to me -why did they do it?

AS to the why, I don't know..
I suspect it was to reduce, weight and cost. Most US fuel is pretty darn clean and is filtered at the pump, an internal filter has the potential to be self cleaning inside the tank with every slosh.... just my stab at the guess...

Not sure I want to get that into it but that sure would be easier to get to, thanks for the help though.I did some research about why the move of the fuel filter and from what I read it was a emissions thing. It to me sounds like some EPA BS.

Thats comforting to know. My truck is almost at 92K and i was just trying to do some maintenance to avoid any problems. I was going to try and drain the transmission fluid and put new fluid in, any suggestions?
