Default 1989 Cheyenne Trans

How are you guys, i'm new here and I come with questions. I just bought an 89 Cheyenne with the V6 in it, it will not shift above second gear. I have looked all over and I can not find what trans is in this thing. Is it the 700R4? I have 1 and 2 all day but never shifts to 3. The truck also has rusted cab corners and a ripped seat but all else is well. Any help would be great.

Cab corners you can order from www.lmctruck.com but require cutting out the old corners and welding in the new.
And i dont know about the trans.

I thing the 89 had a 3LE60 Or just basically a turbo 400 except for the fact its electronic shift. Mine had the same problem recently. Make sure the vacum line from the transmission is hooked up to the throttle body. Can you manually shift it into third?

even manually it will not shift. Someone told me it could be the input speed sensor but, I don't think that's it.

so they use the same trans for the v6 and v8 ? Now I have found a couple on craigslist pretty cheap but they are callimg the trans a short tail, I would bet that, that is not the one I should be looking at. Another question, how hard is it to rebuild the clutch packs if they are screwed? And where would I find the disks to put in

you should be able to tell which one you have the short tail is only about 4-5 inches long. the long tail is about 7-8 inches. as far as replacing the clutch packs yourself, well thats pretty tricky. if you never been inside an automatic tranny before. more in likely the reason for it not shifting into third, is that you either have a broke band or you have a pressure leak in the final drive drum, or a throttle body that is has stuck detent ball.
