Unhappy 1990 thermostat issues

is there a thermostat oring for these? i changed the thermostat 3 times now and i cant get it to heat up past 40-50 on the gauge, and now that winter is rollin by its worse on cold nights to the point it wont even shift into overdrive and killing my milage, canadian tire says they have no oring for it, but the thermostat doesnt seat nicely, so i assume there is one. pretty sure i have 3 good thermostats sitting on the bench but no heat.

there is no o ring. it should set right in there and its a done deal. what thermo have you been getting? 180? and what mix are you running? 50/50? 50/75? any additives to keep it running cooler?

50/50, no additives, thermostat i pulled out originally has some kind of oring on it, temps are around 120f if i let it warm up and dont drive, if I drive when its cold you almost cant read the gauge

with a laser temp gun hottest i could get it was 170f at high revs in the garage, and that was running at high revs for about 5 to 7 minutes

If the old one had a o-ring then the new one most likely should also. Off the top of my head I can not picture it.

well as i said, no one lists an oring for it as a part, might be GM only part who knows, i made my own, and it comes to temp now, but as soon as therm opens @ 190f, it drops all the way back down to 120f...any guess's?

could be a bad guage or temp sending unit.

ive checked the temp ending unit, using a lazer temp gun, they are within reason so im not sure right now.

did your engine put off heat when the gauge was still down?

not sure what you mean, it gave off heat, but not much, either way, i might have some air in the lines, and ill be checking tomorrow at gm if they have orings
