Default 1997 Chevy 1500 problems

Well, this has been a non-stop nightmare since last August, so hopefully I can get some definitive answers on here. Last August, I went to start my truck and it wouldn't start. Turned over just fine, but wouldn't start. Dad and I started taking pieces off, like the air box, unhooking sensors, etc. Then, we took the valve covers off to see if the timing chain broke, and it started right up. Drove it a few more days and it didn't want to start again. Hooked a fuel pressure gauge up to it, and fuel pressure wouldn't hold up, so changed the fuel pump and put an upgraded spider injection system in it. Drove it around for about a month after we got it going again and once again, it didn't start. Would go out occasionally and try to start it and it wouldn't do it. Then, after sitting for about three months, it started out of no where. Drove it around for about a half hour and had no issues whatsoever. The next day it wouldn't start again. A few weeks later I went out to see if it would start and once again, it started. Drove it for a couple weeks and once again, it wouldn't start. I believe that the ECM may be the issue, but I was seeing if anyone else has had similar issues. It's just really strange that it'll run just fine some days and some days it doesn't want to. When it is running, there are no issues whatsoever. It runs just as it normally does. It's just getting it to start. Anyone else had similar issues?

Sounds to me like the pump is picking up something in the tank, or fuel blockage. Can you check when it won't start if you are getting gas? I know you changed the pump, and any cel?

It is getting gas and has spark. We even tried spraying ether in the intake and nothing. What do you mean by cel?

cel is check engine light. Does this thing have a distributor? If it isn't fuel, and sporatic I'd go with pickup coil. I had an 82 that did the same thing till it just quit. Difference in distributor I know, but it sounds like something either getting hot or insulation is bad, and going to ground.

It has always had really hot spark. Never had a problem with that.

Im going to read the rest of the thread I have literally been have this problemfor over 13 years (it has sat sometimes a long time) this last time I changed the plugs - they looked fouled - its started right up - drove it around the back to my garage and started and ran it a few more time until again crank and no start...ill keep looking - this has been frustrating I did get couple codes like heater on o2 bad and missfire on #3 I just got done replacing the wires since when I change the plugs only did the distributor cap. so I pulled # 3 yep fouled...
