Default 2000 1/2 ton diagnostic plug in doesn't work

I plugged my code reader into the diagnostic plug-in on my 2000 5.3 liter pickup, and can't get the reader to say that it's plugged into the truck. I can get it to work just fine on my 05 trailblazer and am using the proper steps when initially hooking it to the pickup.

Is there a fuse, etc. that I should check that would cause power to the plug-in to go out?

Thanks.

Check the lighter fuse.

Good call....replaced a blown fuse and was able to get a code.
