Right now the yellow lights are on for Auto 4wd and 4Hi, but when I drive it's clearly in 4wd. Last night I couldn't get it out of 4lo. I talked to a dealer mechanic and he said it's supposed to change seamlessly when I put it in neutral and press the button, but it doesnt.

Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know a trick to it or is there a way to manually put it back in 2wd?

Could be the switch, or the actuator

 

Better if it is rolling , under 5 MPH, in neutral.
That is what the manual says and it works for mine.

My 2000 Silverado 2500 with 85k miles is stuck in 4wd lo also. Changed switch and fluid and no change. Mine also won't shift out of first gear. I guess next is encoder motor on transfer case. Right now when I hit buttons nothing happens, no lights. Switch lights do sequence when I turn on ignition. This truck sets idle for months on end. It worked perfect the last time i used it and i might have left it in 4wd lo. but this year i went to hook up to my bike trailer and 4wd lo first gear only.
