Default 2003 Z71 won't shift into park

This weekend I was cutting down trees and after I loaded the bed COMPLETELY full of wood. The truck wouldn't shift into park. Also I was driving on an unimproved path with the bed loaded so I was jarring the truck all over the place trying to navigate through the backwoods.

I got home unloaded the wood and the truck still won't shift into park. I put the column shifter all the way over and it stops on R. Although reverse is not engaged. The reverse lights come on but the trans is in between Park and Reverse. I did get underneath and I can manually roll the linkage into park. I had this problem before on a 96 1/2 ton but it was becuase the linkage was broke. My preliminary overview of the linkage doesn't show any damage. I am going to take a more indepth look hopefully this weekend but I wanted to see if anybody had ever encountered this problem.

Thanks

Robert

i have had the same problem....ill bet its the cable from the shifter to the trans, mine was like yours...would go al over the place, but not into park no matter how hard i reffed on it...turned out the cable had a frey in it and it was binding up in its case...anyways there around 94 bucks for a cable at the dealer....really easy to install...best of luck

I just put a new shifting cable in my 2003 chevy Silverado. It shifts into every gear except for park. I can shift it into park manually. Is there a way to a just the linkage you are talking about. Please let me know asap I really appreciate your help

Default 2002 Chevy Suburban Z71 Won’t shift in park.

My 2002 won’t shift in park from the steering column but when I get under it to do it manually, shifts right in park . Just started having this issue it was shifting alright but it wouldn’t go in first.
