2010 Sierra Z71 1500 security light sometimes and no start
I know it's a Chevy forum, but I was already a member and they are the same trucks.
My aunt's boyfriend has a 2010 Sierra Z71 (bought new almost year ago), it has almost 40k on it. It also has the factory remote start. He started to have an intermittent starting issue on Thursday.
If you hit the lock button once and the security light, lights up on the dash the remote start will not work when the lock button is hit for a second time. If the security light doesn't light then the remote start works.
Then with the key. If you turn the key on and the compass (locatated in the odometer area with the temp) has the dash marks light it never got calibrated and if that happends it won't start. But, if the compass works it starts.
Has anyone seen this problem before? Do you think the fix will be covered under warranty?
Thanks

I was able to borrow the Snap-On Solus from work to get the code. I found a U1511. As far as I know, the trunk isn't under warranty anymore.

The parameters for warranty are; 3 years/36,000 miles whichever comes first. The 2010 is definitely in the years, so if the vehicle has less than 36,000 miles the truck is under warranty still.

He took the truck to the dealer, and they hooked him up. They covered it under warranty because of other trucks with the same problems. What was found was corrosion in the under hood junction block. A friend of mine that works for GM as a tech that helps dealers diagnose vehicles, told me he has seen corrosion there usually on a truck that has been crashed.
