My 5.3L V8 2014 6sp auto 4x4 runs very quiet and i assume it is efficient.
I am hung up about adding catback duals. on older trucks, it was always a given; true duals supposed to add performance. However, after reading all the backpressure info....and relative pipe sizes, it seems that the best way to make the truck sound a little better [ quiet as hell now ] and not impact performance, they say 1 large series 50 muffler and dual 2.5" exhaust pipes is the way to go. Anybody have comments about the conversion?
Also, I only had RubyV66speed for about a month; traded it in for the current Ruby2 5.3L 4x4 Love the truck

 

Have you tried looking at the Magnaflow and Flowmaster? They have good sounding exhausts.

 

Local shop suggested Flowmaster series 50 if i want it more conservative; series 40 for more noise. thanks for your response.

 

I'm more of a 50 series guy. However, Flowmaster is an excellent choice.

 

flowmaster blows. chambered mufflers hurt you more than anything, you want the gasses to escape as fast as you can, straight through mufflers are better overall, that is unless you just like the sound of the flowmaster. I prefer magnaflow, borla, aeroturbine, spintech, and a few others

 

I appreciate your input; main concern is back pressure and not upsetting the original intent of the manuf. I always used 2 mufflers in a true dual set up on my 88, 97, 03 z71 chevys.
Just not sure what a cat back 1 muffer 2 pipes set up actually gives me other than looks. But everyone wants to do the 1 muffler set up...approx. $400 any thoughts?

 

5.3 2015 Silverado. Not sure if I like the 40 series I just put on. The muffler shop pulled off some kind of valve before putting on the new muffler. Seems like it's shifting too early and doesn't up shift as quick. 4cyl mode sounds weak. Was skeptic at first and may go back and have it removed.

 

Thanks for that info. i was already decided not to go the 40 route, but i will look into what actually will be modified prior to doing the work. sounds like the shift points changed due to backpressure [ ? ] There is good info concerning the size of exhaust pipe to use depending on choice of torque at low rpm or horsepower at higher rpm....so backpressure DOES enter into the equation.
Besides, when do we actually use max. horsepower? not often.
The duals and new muffler is mostly sound effects on newer vehicles.
Also have trouble finding someone who can use mandrel formed pipes. the local muffler shops want to bend their own pipes and they crush the pipe at the bends. something i don't care for. still searching.
