Exclamation 2018 Silverado 1500 Ignition won't turn - Help needed

My ignition switch won't turn it happened with out any prior indication of trouble, i bought it new and never had too many problems, both key are in good condition with no bends or wear, both still work in the door lock perfectly. I took the column housing off and i notice this small cable that goes into the ignition housing just below the cylinder lock housing. My question is what is this cable ( possibly a park / neutral safety device) ? Is there something else that i could possibly check before spending a bunch of money on a new ignition switch.
I have been looking on the web most of the day for information on this problem or even a schematic of the mechanical components and mechanical safety devices for this year and model truck but have not found much. late 2013 to 2018 models should all be the same i have had a couple of these trucks so far and never had this issue.

90% of the time it is the key. worn keys will work in the door as the door cylinders have 2 less tumblers. if the edges of the keys are rounded or the silver is worn off...its probably the key.

don't trace old keys...have new keys cut from a code.
