Default 93 silverado z71 radio issue?

Truck has 250,000 miles. Bought it about a month ago. When I press power, nothing turns on. Could it be a bad radio or ground wire? I also heard that your map lights are connected to the same wire as the radio and my map lights dont work either.

did you check your fuses?
if all your fuses are good then obviously there is a wiring issue.
You don't specify whether it is a stock stereo or an aftermarket stereo someone installed.
If aftermarket could be wired bad.

Did it have an aftermarket it in it before you bought it? That interior of Chevy is a lil dumb IMO, a lot of people pull the tape deck out and put an aftermarket there. I had hell with my '89 for awhile.

Sounds like your remote wire may have come out or something.
It is what tells the stereo to turn on/off if I remember correctly.
If you are not stereo savvy take it to Best Buy or something and they should be able to fix it for like $54.00. You shouldn't mess with it if you don't know what you are doing cuz if you mess with the wrong wire like the yellow power wire you could fry your whole electrical system throughout the car. It has been several years since I've messed with stereos so I forget some troubleshooting techniques.

Yeah I see alot of people around here doing that. I am thinking about just installing an aftermarket headunit and go from there. My only issue is that I cannot find the right radio dash adapter to go in the hole where the tape deck is at. There are GM dash adapters for GM vehicles my year, but none of them are for the 88-94 silverados. Does this mean none of them wont fit?

I know a friend that is somewhat competent on installing radios.

The bottom 2 are the way to go for the install kit.
