Default 98 Silverado V8 5.3 Engine Specs

I'm helping a buddy do some car work. His resivoir for his coolant was empty. We poured a bit more coolant into the "cold" line. He drove to and from work and it was empty again. No coolant spots were apparent in his driveway or in his parking space at work. What is the coolant capacity for this truck and what could be possible causes of the no fluid, if there is no leaks/puddles. Thanks guys. Great site by the way!

When you fill fill the radiator first, then let it run and warm up to normal operating temp, if it drops below the hot you need to add.
Did you do something to the cooling system when you worked on it?
Is it smoking at all?
It will depened on what year, engine, and package you got to determine how much fluid it will take.

if it is a 98 it 1/2 ton it is a 4.3 v-6, 5.0 v-8, or a 5.7 v-8. There is only two places that antifreeze can go. The ground or in the crankcase, check the oil level, if it is creamy looking or overfull you probably have a headgasket leaking, fairly common as are intake leakes on thoose trucks.
