So, i replaced the rear brakes pads on my 2003 silverado(which wore out before the front pads). Now i cant seem to get them to stop squealing.
i've been doing my own brakes for a long time and never had brakes make this much noise. The rotors and pads were both replaced with Napa products which are usually solid.I put brake lube on the pins and on the rear of the pads, still no luck! Any suggestions?

 

You can try a rotor conditioner. which is a spray on product for disc brakes only. napa should carry it.

ummm... did you put brake grease on the back of the pads before you put them in?

 

YES! Thats really the only thing i've ever done so they dont squeal and never had a problem until now.

Some vehicles are made with clips and or thin metal plates that go behind the pads. I have always put the spray on stop squeak (in a can and sprays on blue) on both sides of these parts and liberally on the pads. This is all I have ever done.

Keep in mind that the stop squeak is much more tacky/sticky than any grease. Grease can and most likely will heat up and run off or dissipate. This will result in your pads squeaking.

 

I was wondering if those little clips would cause some noise, now i know. I've never had a problem with them before, first time for everything i guess. Thanks for the GREAT info! I will try that before i spend another $60.00 on a another set pads.

OK...Make sure these clips are holding tight against the pads. The pads should not move without a considerable amount of force (if you can wiggle these without much effort) then the clips are probably bad) These clips could also cause the noise if they are not installed correctly. Good luck.
