Default Can I add water to my coolant?

My radiator cap was loose and almost half the coolant shot out of it when the engine warmed up. I added some water in hopes of making it through the day tomorrow at work before I can drain the radiator and add fresh coolant.

that should be fine for now. just make sure to remix it to a 50/50 and fill it up the right way soon. The only real danger in putting water in, is it getting cold and freezing. that would crack the block.

Hi tom5170,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

In the event that you added less than half a gallon of water, you shouldn't have to change anything, for now. That much difference in the 50/50 ratio isn't really going to make much of a difference, unless you live high in Northern Canadian Lattitudes.
