cracked exhaust manifold
Hi, I have a 01 Silverado HD V8 with 180k miles. The engine runs real strong but has a cracked exhaust manifold on the right side. My question is am I going to have a real big problem getting the bolts out without breacking them off. What would be the smartest way to do this job. thanks alot
You shouldnt have any problems with the bolts going into the head. The ones that give trouble are the ones holding the crossover to the manifold. Since you are replacing the manifold who cares, twist them off.
PB blaster is a rust penetrator.
spray it on anything rusty and it will eat away the rust.
break free the bolt, then apply WD-40 lubricant if needed.

I did this on a 454 I had in a dually which had a cracked manifold between the exhaust ports on the drivers side.
I got me some fiberglass cloth (actually it was some high temp cloth better than fiberglass). Folded it into a pad of sorts and cut a piece of stainless steel out of an old pot as big as the pad was.
I then secured the pad with the SS on top of it to the manifold over the crack with SS hose clamps.
It lasted at least another five years until I sold it.
