I was having sporadic problems with the spedo in my 05 silverado. Having 60k on the truck I thought i was going to have to pay. I called the dealer and asked if they knew anything about spedo trouble in these trucks? The service writter asked me for my vin then told me it was covered by chevy as long as I was under 70k! Awesome! If any one else is having spedo trouble, contact the dealer. It may be worth it.
