I've read a lot about "stay away from Fram filters" on 5.3 liter chevy engines. Why is that? Bobbyb1959

 

Yeah, please do tell. I have been using Fram filters since I bought my truck. Never heard that concerning Fram filters.

 

well i do not know about the idea of not using on certian applications, but ive read about how the paper element gets crapped out at around 1500-2500 miles from new and starts to break apart and float around in the oil system. the articles all claimed that the cheap paper is not meant for the hot oil and breaks down because of it. when i heard that i started buying mobil one products. but in theory, if everyone has been using these filters, and the owner before me used the filter, and i did for 1.5 years, and everyone at jiffy lube uses them, how many people really claimed to have this issue with their vehicle? come to think of it, when i take some old filters off, the brand im unsure about, when i pour the oil out, i hear things inside shaking and rattling. but the new one doesnt do that. just my 2 pennies.

 

Please, do start using Mobil1 filter. You will do a lot of favor to your truck and to yourself, by saving on future repairs. It is well spent ten bucks.
There's a guy who bought and disassembled every single filter on the market, measured them, evaluated construction and such.
According to him, best one is for Japan only, not sold here.
Next best are Mobil1, K&N, and Purolator.

 

I have heard from a guy that works at havoline that fram and wix filters tend to drop oil pressures because they are too dense. I don't know that for sure, but since i heard that, I only run acdelco filters.

 

I second the AC / Delco parts, if its whats recommended use it. That and the AC parts arn't any more expensive then the other brands with the exception of the high end ones.

 

I run AcDelco fuel filters as well. I'm like in2pro. If you find something that is specifically designed for a Chevy for the same price or cheaper than the universal filters made to work with anything, which would you choose?

 

Frams are crap due to the paper elements as mentioned above. I have used ACDelco, Purolator, M1, and Wix with great results as per oil analysis.
