could be either without taking the head off to check the valves for abnormal wear marks or built up carbon. usually a tick is a valve/lifter. more of a knock is a piston

Good morning LS Silverado,

You mentioned that you've had some mechanics take a look - were these with one of our GM dealership? If so, and if you would like for us to look into this further with them, please send us more information privately, including your name and contact information and the last 8 digits of your VIN.

Probably a lifter if it never stops. It could be piston slap, that usually goes away.

Check for exhaust leaks on that right side. Will sound just like a "tick".

run can of Seafoam in crankcase for about 1000 miles, then change oil. If truck is not taking oil, replace with at least semi synthetic. See what happens.
I run on Amsoil and do my oil changes when tsa-tsa becomes heard. Which is around 12 000 miles or so.
