Cool help...truck wanders!

hey all

this past weekend i found my truck to wander...sorta like float form one side of the lane to the other..mainly at highway speeds...ive checked the ball joints and tie rods for excessive play..and found nothing..checked sway bars and steering system...and all else it tight and in workin order..my next idea would be the alignment?...any ideas?...keep in mind i did lower my truck bout 2 weeks ago used the belltech 3 inch lowering shackles for a level stance..and seem to have started this since..any help would be great!!..

Did you have a alignment done on it after installing the lowering kit? If you didn't have someone do a alignment check on it. That would be my first guess.

This started happening on my(somewhat heavier) 04 about six months ago. Your steering damper is probably shot. Simply put, it's a shock absorber type unit which attaches laterally between the frame and your steering to keep the ride from veering or wandering, also to keep the steering from jumping too far off when you're in the mud.

I used a Gabriel Hijacker for a replacement, but most Shock Absorber brands carry them.

this is what you need to check and, most likely, replace:
1. idler arm
2. pitman
3. both hub bearings.

"snaking" has nothing to do with shocks, tierods, or tierod ends.
Speaking from perfectly same experience. You can dump $65 and install steering shock, it'll only postpone the death wobble. And when you experience THAT - you'll check and replace all parts I have just mentioned in a click, it's so ....... scary.

Unless you have a 4wd, you do not have a steering dampener. You need an alignment- you changed the caster and camber when you lowered the truck.
