So I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado with the 4.8L V8. it has 150,000 miles on it, and recently had an oil change (last 1000 miles i believe) and it has a ticking noise to it when i press the gas pedal (only when i press the gas pedal.) So, correct me if im wrong, but i believe my problem is a dry/sticking lifter(s). If it is a lifter, what could i do to stop this ticking noise? its pretty annoying and id like to get rid of it. all answers are much appreciated, thanks!

 

I'd try running some upper cylinder lubercant through it, you can buy it at any auto store. buy a big bottle of it and just add some at each fill up. I did this with a 94 bonneville I had that sounded like crap, it eased its problems.

if that dont help ya, you might be looking at a valve re-seating job

 

Didn't use the wrong weight oil did you?

 

Does this just happen when you first start up or does it continue the whole time you are driving?

 

I actually just bought the truck, so i dont know about the oil weight. And it ONLY does it when i press the gas, not when im coasting or idleing (that i can hear anyways)

I suggest changing the oil. The previous owner may have used the wrong weight oil. Put the suggested 5-30W and see if the lifter noise quits within a few days.
If it works, then it's well worth the cost, if not you're not out much money.

When you're not sure what the fix is, start with the cheapest fix.
