These damn parking brake equalizers always boggle me when I have to work with them. This specific one has one end with a nut and clamp around it, the other end is open, looks like it just clips around something. Looking at my parking brake cable ends I see one from the right rear has a long threaded rod with 2 nuts on it, the one from the left rear has just a regular 1/4" cylinder piece, and the front parking brake cable has the same cylinder piece on it. I can figure that the one threaded rod from the right rear goes in the equalizer's nut, but how does the front and the left rear clip up into the equalizer?

ok I found that the equalizer is a $10 part from DORMAN part number 21121 and both left and right rear brake cables attach into that, then the left cable extends to reach the front cable and attaches with a Brake Cable Connector which is also a DORMAN part 21126.

 

Ok dumb question, what is a parking brake equalizer and what is it's function?

 

it connects to the moving wire of the rear right brake cable, and the housing for the rear left cable. it has a nut in it that you can turn the brake equalizer to tighten up the right brake cable. the right brake cable has a long threaded rod as an end. instead of like how the front and the left cable has the little ball endings like your brake cables for bicycles have. I'm just posting this info incase someone else on the web ever runs into this problem. I couldn't find anything on it and it took a bit of run around and chasing down people who have the same trucks. Its amazing how many people run without ebrakes!!!

I read fine, I was just curious as your first post advises that "it connects to the moving wire of the rear right brake cable, and the housing for the rear left cable" which indicates that the truck ALREADY has a parking brake which is directly contradicitve to your last post "to install the emergency/ parking brake on a 1988-1998 Chevy 1500... Y U NO READ ?".

Additionally, since the title itself "parking brake EQUILIZER" would, in and of it's self, suggest that a parking brake exists and you are trying to balance the parking brake somehow.

So I was just being curious.

So, in summary, I CAN READ, but YOUR posts were confusing and contradicting.
