currently, my 90 has 202k, cooling system is full of rust from running water in the summers, have done 2 freeze plugs (one still leaking, my fault just ain't bothered to fix it again yet) just had a waterpump, currently needs a clutch fan, I found a thermostat rusted away in the manifold this last time, I've never been able to get it to hold water, (not it's fault I'm a poor broke hick) front end is just starting to get some slop in it, I've had it since 136k, the synchro's are all shot (side effect of a truck driver as a owner) I got the last clutch master/slave cylinder line in town and if I were to consider getting rid of it my children would slit my throat in my sleep.
My hope is to eventually get another engine and trans and redo the front end and have it for the kiddos once they get old enough.

I have a 99 Silverado with 5.3 V8 and 219,483 miles on it and it starts and runs great. We got down to -20 one night and I went out early while still at that temp to see how it would start. It popped right off and ran like a champ. I think the biggest thing is not to beat or mistreat it and do normal maintenance on it. You could do normal maintenance and beat the crap out of it and it will not last. I don't baby it but I don't beat it either and it's served me well so far.

I bought a 1992 Chevy 1500 ext cab 4.3 V6 w/5 speed manual in 1997 with 95,000 miles on it. Previous owner towed a camper with it. Drove it to 175,000 towing a 3800# boat and various other small trailers. My son still drives it today w/275,000 miles and still going strong with the original engine w/slight puff of smoke on start up but no serious oil consumption. One clutch replacement and one fuel pump to date. Changed the oil & filter every 3,000 to 5,000 miles depending on towing miles. Like a Rock!

I have had 2 silverado's prior to the 2011 I have now, my 2011 has 90K on it already and still doing good. I had a 1992 2WD with 294,000 miles on it when I got rid of it same engine and tranny. I also had a 1995 with 216,000 miles on it when I sold it to a kid same engine and tranny. They are great trucks, I will never go back to Dodge or Ford again.

My 2005 1500 went 35K when the tranny gave out no major towing just a small bass boat. All the gauges died at 40K, both front wheel hubs at 50K, water pump at 60K and now my heads turned my oil into a milkshake thanks to the defective heads Chevy installed.
As to why they ditched the rock solid 350 who knows maybe guys were getting too many miles out of them just like when jeep stopped making the 4.0 you can get 300K with no problem out of the 4.0.
Needless to say im done with new vehicles especially trucks today they are made with plastic, tinfoil and paperclips. As soon as I get my 2005 running im selling it and buying an old 70s or 80s blazer back when trucks were actually built to be used as a truck.

2004 with 110k -- The 5.3L V8 runs like a champ; but it is my "part time" vehicle. I usually drive my 2002 Nissan Sentra because it is better on gas, but the Silverado is a lot more fun.
My friend from work has a 2002 (similar to mine, but his is a 4x4) with 190,000 miles on it. He bought it brand-new and tells everyone that it is not broken in yet. :-)
Proper maintenance is the key!!
