I am curious to know, when do most Silverado owners replace the factory spark plugs? I have an 8.1 with 88K miles, and I suspect I may need new plugs. I feel a slight miss whentowing a heavy 5Th wheel onacceleration, otherwise when empty it seems to run fine.

change them! 88k is close enough.

 

The plugs should last up to 100,000 miles but it is a good idea to change them when you notice a deterioration in fuel economy or performance that cannot be attributed to anything else.


It is unlikely that the slight misfire that you feel is caused by worn plugs, I would look into having the fuel injectors cleaned.

I use four or five 16oz bottles of Techron cleaner in a full tank of fuel to clean mine and it generally works very well.

Side note: If you replace your plugs; most current AC Delco plugs are now Iridium instead of Platinum, the proper gap for your motor is 0.060in (revised from 0.040in), the plugs should come correctly gapped from the factory but always check them these new plugs are very delicate and easily damaged if re-gapped so be careful.

Torque is 15lb ft for a new plug and 22 lb ft if re-installing a plug.
I recommend using an anti-seize compound as well.
If AC Delco is not available I would recommend NGK as an alternative, their Iridium IX plug is a great product and your motor takes part # TR55IX

 

Yeah,I ended up replacing the original plugs in my 92 chevy silverado at about 170k lol.They were horrible.I really should have replaced them way before I did but I never really checked them out.Now I know I should do that more lol.

I agree with clintjohns6412 about ZX1100f1. Does any body know of a better web place to buy plugs, than sparkplugs.com? They have all kinds for a reasonable price.

I changed my 2000 Z 71 plugs at 180,000 could not tell in difference in mileage or performance.
