Default Mice ate my wires! Need help identifying where it attaches. '04 Silverado

Truck no start this morning. Found a loose chewed wire but can't figure out where it goes. Small black with two white stripes, comes out of the harness passenger side rear top near where the 2 heater hoses go through the firewall.

Can anyone help me determine where this wire goes? Turned the key to start, got lights but no starter action at all. Had to disconnect the battery to get the lights to go out.

Does anyone have a 2004 Silverado with the 5.3 liter engine and could look and see where that wire goes? I've looked carefully all over that area and just can't see where the mouse chewed it off....no dangling other end or anything. Thanks.

Black with a White Stripe.

I'd assume that is a Ground, the White Stripe being... I haven't figured out that part, but I've disassembled two GM harnesses and studied schematics for my truck. Black is always ground to my knowledge and if it has a White Stripe, it seems to denote a ground to a sensitive electronic device. These are just my opinions and guesses, so take it with a grain of salt. Anyways that wire does not look small at all. It looks rather large to me. If you can find the other end, look for a ground point with no wire. Also, carefully check all your connectors.

What a nightmare, I feel for you.

Thank you for your reply. I am leaning towards it being a ground too but I just can't see where it was attached. I'll stare at again some more. It's about 9 inches long, comes out of the loom and goes who knows where, and it's bit clean through with no other end dangling some place. A nightmare indeed.

Your assumption is correct verified with my ohm meter. It's grounded at the other end. Now if I could just find where it's supposed to be connected! Does anyone have a truck same year or earlier and could look under your hood and spot where that wire goes? It's the only black with white stripes single wire on the passenger side that comes out of the loom and goes possibly forward. All other wires are bundled into the loom and terminate at connectors. Thanks.

Turns out it is a ground wire. I suspect no one who looked under their hood to help me was able to find it as it normally attaches to the back of the engine. I extended the wire and attached it to the front of the block, turned the ign. key and presto, a starting well running truck again. Thank you dberladyn for pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks for sharing the results. I'm glad you have it fixed, even better glad you could do it without paying anyone.

I had mice try and make a nest (or whatever its called) on my 5.3 in my Avalanche... I found that securing a couple of dryer sheets under my hood every fall has kept them away... Put several in and on the Vett when I put it up for winter storage also...
