What brand of fluids, OEM or aftermarket are recommended transmission, differential, etc., and coolant? I have a 2008 TAHOE LTZ with about 57,000 miles; using M1 oil and K&N filter. Have not had any other maintenace done. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi almypal26,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

Use only Dexcool(red) approved coolant.

If you've done well with M1, stay with it. Mobil also

probably makes other dependable lubrication products.

IMO, if you're doing well with it already, stick with what

you've been using.

To get the best oil for your money, eventhough neither are cheap, i run Mobil 1 full synthetic. I don't abuse my 99 Z71 but definately far from being babied. I have ran both to see wut RP was all about, and found Mobil to be a great all around pick.

i dont know much about oils. but my dad has always just used cheap walmart brand synthetic on his vehicles. is this bad? i see from yalls conversation that theres not too big of a difference between higher end oils. but is there a substantial difference between walmart brand and the others?
what is recomended for a 97 Z71, 350 vortec with 80k miles?
and how important is the type of filter?

Hi acer9876,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

I think you'll find any API grade SG(or higher) 5W30 oil

will work well with your truck.

Generally speaking, if you're not using the higher end

synthetics, you should consider a higher frequency of oil changes.

Back during my "Dyno" oil days, it was anything rated, with any name

brand filter, EVERY 3K.

But I got old, and decided crawling under the truck every 3K wasn't

my cup of tea anymore. Then I discovered the higher end synthetics,

even with a ridiculously expensive filter, was cheaper in the long run.

You just have to find what works best for you.
