Default New Fuel Pump Isn't Working

I have a 1998 K1500 with a 350 and 110,000 miles. I was driving around fine one day, turned the truck off for 10 minutes and it wouldn't start. I didn't hear the fuel pump going so I pulled it and saw it was dead. I put a new fuel pump in and can hear it buzzing now when I turn the key. I am getting gas to the engine and I even bled the lines of air. It just won't start. Any suggestions on something I have missed?

I would check the ground as a start I have a 92 1500 and also had similar problem the wires on the 88-98 1500's are very cheep and get brittle after years of salt, sand, and dirt hitting them I found the short near the fuel tank and it was inside the wire with no visible signs of a short.

I would:
Make sure you have spark
Check your fuel pump pressure
Is the check engine light on, if so check for codes
If you don't have a pressure gaugeor code reader you should be able to rent one (usually for free) at one of your local auto stores. Leave a deposit and get it back when you return the tool. You should have 55-60 PSI for fuel pressure.
You need spark and fuel to run check these first. Let us know what you find.

Hello Ddescalso,
Did you ever figure out the issue, I have the same problem, I changed out my fuel pump and nothing. Gas is going into my engine so the new pump works, but turns and turns and doesn't catch.

Welcome to the forum, this is an old thread & I doubt Ddescalso will reply back since he has not logged on for 6-7 months.

What type of vehicle is yours, year, engine size etc.? I am sure the active members here will be able to guide you in the right direction.

Default Thanks,

Hello Chevy Forum,

I have a 02 Silverado with 121k miles V6 4.3l Ext Cab

So the Story begins with the typical fuel pump symptons, the truck started stalling on me out of nowhere, first, I pulled the codes because I was getting really low RMP's, I changed out the MAS Flow sensor and seemed to fix the Low RPM's but not even 5 miles on my drive home, the truck started spittin out like if it where out of gas. So I changed out the fuel pump. Now it turns and turns and doesn't catch. I also changed the fuel filter and gas is going into the fuel injection.

How do I check if there is spark? could it be my distributer cap? I need help!

Hey guys i just had this same problem the new fuel pump was installed and it wouldn't start only turn over and not kick in, so after my mechanic put in a 2 new ones he discovered the security system in the truck has to be reset.
Its pretty simple and IT is the problem.
OK here is what you do...
{ you try to start the vehicle and it wont.
you keep the key turned you will see the security light blinking on and off. Wait until it stops blinking normally and it will blink very fast for just a few seconds at that point look at your clock and in exactly 10 minutes turn the key and your truck will turn over!!! }
For real that is how you reboot the system.
I hope this helps i can't believe it either.

Just to finish this post, the outcome of my truck issue was that I had a bad coil connector. After 4 months of problems and easily over 400 bucks spent, the coil connection had gone bad.

Good luck with others having problems. Still lovin the Truck!
