Default New guy needs advice

Hey wassup everybody.im looking to buy a 99 silverado for $3700 with 134000 miles on it. drives great, but it has a couple cosmetic issues.

The rocker panels are rusted thruough
the left latch on the rear gate is bent
the bed has a few dents in it
and it has some minor body dents as well

Is this a good deal?
how tuff it it to replace/repair the panels

Welcome to the Chevy Forums. First off, you should get great prices on trucks right now, betwixt the economy, gas prices, and the glut of trucks currently on the market, you should be able to pick up something in good shape for a lot less than Blue Book.

Be sure to shop around, if for no other reason than to enlighten yourself as to the actual market value of what's available right now.

I may be way off, but considering the mileage and age, the asking price seems somewhat high.

You could always make a lowball offer and move on in your search. For that kind of $$ the vehicle should be pretty clean, IMO.

I agree, you didn't list what the truck is equipped with but I would think it should be more like $2,500.

Thanx for the feedback. The seller had it listed for 4500. Book value for its condition is $4325, and worst condition is $3275. As i been on the market for a long time now for a pickup i thought this was a good deal.

Its a:
99 Silverado 1500
4x4 ext cab, 6ft bed i think, pl,pw,cd,ac, thats all i can think of off the top. The guy seems pretty **** about upkeep so i can imagine he took care of it. Said he bought it a few years back from a state trooper with the rust, the reason was salt. Had the reciept and papers from when he bought it, it showed he paid $8950 for it

usually when i found a truck like that the seller would have it listed 5 6 grand the most, which is more then i wanted to spend. or id find one in the 3, 4 grand range but with higher mileage.

Before i found the 99 silv. i went to check out a 97 silv, 4x2 ext cab, mileage was a little higher and the lady was asking 4100.

ps. i found a couple after market rocker panles for $159 a pair which isnt bad at all. If thats all it would take id probly pull the trigger and buy the truck.

But then again ive never owned a truck so im not familiar with whats to come from a 10yr old truck with 134000 miles

There's too many fish in the sea right now to even consider a truck that's not in good condition. The high mileage is gonna dog ya, IMO. I'd keep lookin', my g/f got a 2000 in excellent shape.

I would pass on this one as well, I've never seen that much rust on a 99 and with the miles on it you will soon be replacing the trans.
