Default no wonder im balding....

ok so im new hereso ill start off with if someone else has had this same issue someone please point me to the thread?

first the back story: best friends dad passed away and he got his truck(96 ext cab 5.7 vortec no rust, dents, tailgate and ac only old issues), due to paperwork issues he got lazy and parked it...in 06, in his back yard. fast forward to a few weeks back, i finally got him to agree to trade me the truck for my customized camry since his g/f's daughter wants it so bad, and the things been killing my back. so last weekend we drag it up out the field, tires still holding air, no brakes sticking or anything...whew one hurdle passed...we dump in a new battery crank... no gas. so we pull the tank and put in new pump, screen, filter, etc. also new plugs. fire it up, it runs on 2, then 3 then 4 cylinders...slowly we get to 7 holes firing, now the 8th (number 5 hole) just wont go. cel light blinking like its trying to sing along with the radio in morse code...so we check the codes we get
general misfire in cylinder 5 (no fuel at all, just spark)
code p0700
code p1192
now we know 0700 is trans control module, which also has a note to check other codes first as it also is related to emissions...ummm ok sure thing... code 1192 no such code....yup there goes my hair! so after much talking, yelling, arguing, throwing bones, chanting in goat skin pants, and just a little dirt in the eye we are down to hoping that replacing the #5 injector will solve all problems, make all things right with the world...and most importantly, get me in my truck!

so i guess my question is, does anyone think im missing something glaringly obvious? im a little more used to stroked and carbed bowties then ones controlled by an xbox...

if its got spark and no fuel, i would say #5 injector as long as you have compression on all 8.
sometimes you can blow air backwards through them and get them to work again (not to say thats the right way.. but it does work temporarily)

another thing to look into is, you got 3+ year old gas in there.. i would go Thur the fuel system and get it all cleaned out.. tank, lines, injectors, evap system.

good luck

well we siphoned the tank dry...like a bunch of excited kids we replaced the pump, filter etc and didnt do the tank at first, then came to our senses and got this out:

so yea its got fresh clean 92 octane (about five gallons) mixed really hot with a full can of injector cleaner and a little sea foam for good measure. i bought the new injector and whole friggin upper manifold gasket kit last night so hopefully saturday it will be ready to go...

so anyways if you can pardon the 3 years of dust (and horribly peeling bed liner) this is she in all her splendor...(oh yea and pardon the cell phone pics, one or two are kinda jumpy...) 122xxx on the clock, always had synthetic oil, no smoke, no leak, no rips....

dang forgot these pics were big, if i need to shrink them to abide by forum rules or anything someone please let me know?

Looks like you got yourself a nice truck, once you get it running and all. Ah well, fun project huh?

It's a shame that the truck was sitting for that long, the guy you got it from needs to be hit hard in the head for leaving such a nice truck sitting in his yard. Atleast garage the beauty!

yea i kinda wanted to kick him for it, but instead i talked him out of it

the biggest problem was paperwork, it was part of the estate and his parents lived out of state so there was a ton of paperwork to do that took forever to get together...which we still will have to file so i can get the truck....yay paperwork... honestly im really enjoying the time with me and him and my other buddy, life gets inthe way and ya dont get as much time to hang with your buddies as much, so this gave us a good excuse to hang out.... hopefully next week she will be in my driveway..then the cleaning starts... clay bars and turtle wax ice and black magic oh my! ill be sure and post pics as things progress, but she is staying all or mostly stock since she will be a gift for my father in law in a few months...
