oil change
I just do mine every 3,000 to 3,500 miles -- and I know that I could go a lot longer. I am "old school" on this and believe that you can never change your oil too often.
Be sure to change the filter as well -- or it will be like taking a shower and putting on dirty underwear.

2012SilveradoMan,
With our new oil life monitoring system, it will indicate to you when to change your oil by displaying a message, oil change recommended. Just a reminder, this system does not measure oil level. So, you will need to continue to check your oil level on the dipstick. You can certainly, still monitor your mileage for your oil changes as well.

11k is getting up there, if you are unsure, I would recommend taking it in have having the oil changed and the monitor reset...
remember to have the chassis points lubed and rotate the tires for maximum tire life...

In response to the OP, since you don't know when it was changed last, I'd go ahead and change it, does it look dirty?
