Hi,
I am new to the form and would like some help please. I have a 2009 Silverado with only 23,000 on it. I discovered a pool on oil lying underneath it in the garage. I can't see anything leaking from under the hood but under the truck it is covered in oil from around the filter back. The source of the leak is coming from around the engine/ tranny area on the top some where and I can't see up that high. I am sure it is oil, but I didn't know there were any lines or engine parts that far back.I looks like the main leak or only leak is coming from about 2 feet from the block and it runs down the tranny and down the tranny pan. The entire underneath side of the truck is covered in oil and I am clueless as to what it could be. It is under the bumper to bumper warranty but I am curious as to what it could be. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

 

If it's under the bumper to bumper, get it to the dealer and doen't expect people on the forum to guess what the problem is.

 

The truck is at the dealer. I like to be informed about other people ideas for my own information. People on the forum seem to be knowledgeable. This is for my own benefit. Thanks for the help.

First thing I'd suspect is the oil filter. Possible previous gasket stuck when filter was removed and left on block. That only happens when the changer skips the step of putting some oil on the gasket.

Other possibility is the filter is not on tite.

Let us know what they find.

I agree with 73shark, there are several possible causes. Keep us up to date on what the dealer finds.

What a great answer to someone who just joined the forum. The young lady was just asking what others thought the problem might be.

 

The dealer found that it was an improperly tightened VLOM fitting. The replaces the necessary parts and even washed it for me. Thank you to everyone for your help.

I have a 1997 Silverado. I recently tried a Driveworks oil filter. Filter was part of an oil change special Advance auto was running. After driving 500 miles I noticed a few spots of oil on my driveway. Then the weather turned cold and I had puddles and lines of oil in my driveway. The filter leaked badly when cold. I looked under the truck and oil was steraming down the filter and flywheel cover. After motor warmed, the leak would stop. The under carriage of my truck is a mess, the engine compartment has an oil film all over. I will never use this filter brand again...will stick to AC delco. Even though you might not have a driveworks filter, check the filter.
