Rear brakes
I have an 2008 silverado 1500, 2 wheel drive. Wanting to remove the rear brakes for cleaning etc. They are set up differently than older models. No lower Adjustment on plate. How do I release the drums correctly? Thanks! Brian
That should have 4 wheel disc brakes which do not need to be clean and adjusted as drum brakes did. Inside the rotor are parking brake shoes. If your parking brake is working properly there is nothing you need to do. Are you having some kind of problem?
Nope not all Silverado's came with 4 wheel disk brakes! I have an 07 NBS & it does but a friend came by in his 08 & it had rear drum. I know in 07 it made a difference on what options you ordered, mine is a Vortax 6L with the Max trailering package is why I got them. Search some of the older post & you will find what I'm saying is true. All 07 old bodies were 4 wheel disk, but GM changed with the NBS & it caught alot of buyers off guard.

Thanks for the reply's. I am getting semi consistant squeaking from the rear brakes until the brakes are applied. The fronts have been serviced. I live in southern Utah with alot of sand. Does this sound like something that I can remedy? How are the rear brakes removed? It is a 2008 1500, 2 wheel drive with a tow package and tow gearing. Thanks, Brian

i have a 08 4x4 silverado 1500 with rear drums ive had it yo gm 3 times, whenever it gets humid or its raining my rear brakes become really grabby its because there is lots of brake dust stuck in my drums, gm wont do nothing but clean them out, ive adjusted them cleaned them out my self, since ive adusted them its better but still grabs the first couple of brake applications and the squeaking went away
