Get one with disc brakes. Your truck is set-up to run 'em, might as well keep 'em.
Is your truck 4WD? if so, make sure you get an axle with the same gears.
Any 10 bolt from a 1500 should work. You could get a 14 bolt from a 2500. But you'll be running 2 different sets of wheels.

You have a 10 bolt, but seeing how its 4wd, you'll want to make sure you get an axle with the same gears, or you WILL break a lot of stuff.
The way to tell the kind of axle you have, count the diff cover bolts... you have a 10 bolt.
The way to tell your gears, is to look in the glovebox for the RPO codes. In the general tech section there should be a sticky with a breakdown of the codes, if not post it here, and me or someone else will be able to help you out.

I don't know when disc brakes became standard for Chevy, my moms 2000 2500 had drums.

If you were to find a semi floating 14bolt, that would be 6lug, I always forget that all 1500s are 6lug now. the 14bolt full floater is 8-lug. Herres a few codes for ya for the rearend.
GQ1 -- AXLE REAR, STD RATIO
GT4 -- AXLE REAR, 3.73 RATIO
GT5 -- AXLE REAR, 4.10 RATIO
GU4 -- AXLE REAR, 3.08 RATIO
GU5 -- AXLE REAR, 3.23 RATIO
GU6 -- AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO
G80 -- AXLE REAR, LIMITED SLIP (POSITRACTION)

HC4 -- AXLE REAR, 4.56 RATIO
