Service Theft Deterrent System
So today when I was leaving for work my truck battery was dead where the key fob couldn't even unlock it, it wouldn't even turn over. After I got it jumped I had a "Service Theft Deterrent System" on the dash. When I got home I shut the truck off and started it again and still got "Service Theft Deterrent System". After about two hours passed I started it again and got no messages on dash and everything appears normal. I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado 5.3 NBS.
Wonder what caused my battery to die and why I got "Service Theft Deterrent System" and what I can do to prevent this in the future

when the battery slowly goes completely dead modules lose communication with each other. This will set numerous fault codes.
As to why your battery failed; there are many possible causes. How old was it? Having a battery load test and avr test of the charging system, parasitic draw testing might give you some answers.
or....as long no problems re-occur...fagetaboutit!
