Anoying steering noise when turning left at low speeds. Driving me nuts. How can this be repaired permanently?

Whould a faulty intermediate steering column cause this problem? Or only the knocking?

1. ISS does clunck at take off or rapid slow down, when front dives or jumps up. irrelevant to turns and not heard during regular driving.
2. CV joint? check boots
3. there was an STB on frame problems for some GM makes, with 4 WD, causing popping noise in tight turns in parking lots. applicable? left side only also.

I believe from 1999 to 2006 these trucks have that same noise from the steering column, even my truck makes that noise. Its a defect that was never fixed or explained at least to my knowledge.

thanks for your feedback. i should have also stated that if i flush and replace steering fluid this annoying noise will stop ... for a couple months. would you still suspect the cv joint or boots?

might try to describe the noise, is it a small clunking or more of a low pitched whining growl

Sound is exactly the same as if it was low on steering fluid. And do not hear this annoying sound always. Does not impact steering. This truck is a dream with this one exception.
