Default Smoking Hot Brakes

Just replaced rears on 2001 Silverado.
The day we replaced them the passenger side was hot & some smoke coming from it but it stopped later. Got home from church today & driver side was EXTREMELY HOT and smoking badly. These two instances are well beyond what you would expect from new pads. I also have noticed at slow speed just idling along there seems to be a drag as if brakes are being applied. I also have developed a vibration at 50 - 55 MPH and am wondering if all this is tied together. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I'd suspect a caliper locking up.

Thanks Kevin.

Is it possible that the locking up is moving from one rear wheel to the other? and what can cause such a condition? When we took the old pads off the passenger was worn to the point I needed a new rotor. The only smoking of brakes I have seen worse is on a NASCAR race.

Don't think so, not sure about abs at least on rear brakes, but calipers can lock up, and cause the exact problem you are having.

Would replacing solve problem? From what I'm seeing both on rear would need replacing.

Don't you think it's odd that both rear brakes would do this at the same time?
