Default starting problems

so saturday i drove my truck for awhile, sunday it sat all day, monday went to warm it up before work and it took some effort to start. it would half crank and half crank then crank and finally turn over. it did the same thing this morning. i had my radio on for about 10 mins and started it later and the hard crank problem started again. got home from work. went to a dr appt cranked fine. it sat at my buddies house for a couple hours tonight and almost didnt start. sounded like the battery was almost dead. i checked the battery today and it had 12.25 volts with the motor off. what are possible problems?
ps i bought an optima red top battery last march i believe. it went bad in september got a free replacement so im on my 2nd one.

NOT an expert but it doesn't sound like a fuel pump. Mine went out few yrs back and it just goes I mean goes. Did it to me while driving. I did have the starting problem like yours and it was the starter going bad. would have to get a jump for a little extra juice sometimes to start. Finally replaced it and worked great. Again not an expert but I also think that you should be reading around 14volts + or - on that batt. Good luck hope this helps.

You should get the battery, starter and alternator checked.

my neighbor(retired mechanic) said that he thinks the starter is going out and the alt is putting out enough amps. and i will see if the battery drains overnight. if it does then that most likely means its bad.
