have a 4l60e out of a 94 c1500 chev. know the owner. it was rebuilt and has 15000 miles on it. he wrecked the truck and took it out. it's been sitting for 4 years fluid is clean and not burnt. want to put it in my 94 c1500.
what should i do to it before i put it in my truck?

 

I would start with a new converter and change the filter. At least empty out the old converter and see what the fluid in it looks like. IMHO

 

fluid is clean. converter was changed when trans was rebuilt.

 

Change fluid and screen, I'd replace the garlock seals on the shifter, input, and output shafts, and stuff it in.

 

Don't do anything; put 'er in and make sure the fluid level is up.

Replace the seals, dried out, and you DON'T want to have to replace the input shaft seal after installation. These three seals are probably less than 25 bucks, and at this stage easy to get to. If it were me, I'd pop the old ones out, and replace.

 

There is not one single seal in that transmission that can "dry out". Just doesn't happen.

Ok, age harden. Don't replace them, fine with me as I'm not the one that (maybe) have to drop the tranny to replace a seal.
