I have a 92 Chevy silverado 1500 extended cab 350 auto that will not shift down into first gear. When u start off it starts n second gear. It shifts fine thru all other gears when driving. Will kick back out of overdrive when gas pedal is pushed and torque converter will kick n when u touch brake. Replaced the governer and kick down cable. Still no firsr gear. Is this a rebuild issue or something simple that is b n missed.

 

I would try a can of "Lube Guard" I have seen it fix this very problem.

 

how do you know you dont have 1st versus a real smooth upshift? On forced downshift it wont shift into 1. It will stay in 2nd until you stop completely and then start off again in 1st.

 

From a dead stop the transmission do not shift until u reach 25 or 30 mph. And it only shifts 3 times from a dead stop.

 

Well took the pan off and full of metal. Looks like a full rebuild.
