Default Turn key- Click. AND EFI

I've been having a new problem with my truck (1996 c1500 w/ 5.7, 2wd).
When I turn the key to start it, sometimes it just clicks once and that's it. And it normally does it when I get gas. It happened once a while back, but I was able to put the truck in N (it's an automatic) and try again and it turned right over, I put it in gear and went on my way.
Lately it's been happening more and more, I thought it was just because I had the tranny rebuilt and maybe something wasn't put back quite like it should have been. But now it's almost every time I get any gas, for some reason. And most of the time it's pretty tough to get it to start, I have to go back and forth from P to N and eventually (normally in neutral) it'll start.
ALSO, I've been having a few issues with, what sounds like, the fuel delivery. One thing I though of that I haven't checked but could is the EFI. I'm not sure how or even where to test it, though. I tried to look online but all it gave me was a bunch of sites that sell injectors. If any of yall could help me out it'd be greatly appreciated.

Hi samsaridinc1500,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

I would change your battery cables,

and engine to firewall ground strap.

It's easy to do for a DIYer with standard

tools, and relatively inexpensive. On any

18 MYO, the copper wires have corroded, to some

extent, and heat or dampness reacts negatively

with the crud buildup to siphon off battery power.

If you leave these OE cables in place, they will

eventually eat your battery, starter, and alternator.

Mechanics love that...

More than likely, your EFI is functioning flawlessly.

I would check your OBDII trouble codes, before

screwing with it.

almost sounds like a neutral safety switch, but not sure. surely something worth checking out tho especially since you've had the trans redone.
